A full day’s immersive experience. We can begin immediately after registration and end just in time to go home.

One or two classes (up to 65 children) can be accommodated

Parents and other classes can be invited for a presentation at the end of the day

Following an introduction, there will be 3 sessions working with the pattern of the school day

before break – between break and lunch – after lunch until end of school day.

Session 1

The Archaeologists

Storytelling:  Finding of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Howard Carter is credited with finding the tomb but did he actually find it?

Role play: as archaeologists arriving in Egypt, searching for and finding a hidden tomb.

Society: Using images from tombs, explore Ancient Egyptians’ roles and how they fitted into the ‘Pyramid of Society’.

Session 2

Learning from objects- 5 activities as a carousel

Piecing together the evidence: Work together to repair a broken pot.

Rosetta Stone and Hieroglyphs: Learn about this hugely important Ancient Egyptian artefact and practise hieroglyphic writing on real papyrus.

Object handling: Use objects to learn about the gods, everyday life, what was buried in tombs.

The Underworld game: Play a simple counter and dice game to tread the perilous path of the Egyptian Underworld and be the first to reach Osiris.

Sketching: Practise speed sketching as you might do if working as an archaeologist ‘in the field’.

Session 3

Mummification

Explore Ancient Egyptian beliefs about the Afterlife and why preserving and looking after the body of loved ones was so important.

Role-play within a mummification workshop to prepare a body for the Afterlife. Everyone will have their specific job to do.

Perform the role-play to invited parents and school friends at the end of the day.

About Me

My Name is Neil Heasman. I became a Primary KS2 teacher with a specialism in history, music and performance after an early career in the world of art and antiques at Sothebys.

For the past 17 years I have worked for the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) in Exeter as a Learning Officer and Events Coordinator. I wrote the content for much of the schools education programme, which continues to thrive.

I spent a number of years visiting schools as The Time Travellers, delivering historical educational experiences. Having now left my role at the museum, I am able to visit schools again with my Ancient Egyptian Experience.

I have a fully enhanced DBS certificate and public liability insurance.

Total cost for the full day experience: £250
